Those of you whose kids have already started school will be amused by this post. I’m writing as I’ve just mandated for the 50th time on a Sunday night that Him and Them go. to. bed.
You see…all of Texas went back to school on Monday. Some private and charter schools even started weeks ago.
But not us.
No…I’m not a homeschooler. But we have a new school this year, and because of construction on the campus, my three adorable children start four days after all of their friends. Which isn’t really that big of a deal unless you heard this conversation after dinner.
“Mom, I’m excited about having a few extra days this summer. But I have a question, when do we get out?”
“June 11, 2014.”
“WHAT?!?!?!?! June 11???? EVERYONE will be out by then, It will be so hot. This is awful?!?!?!”
“You’ll be okay. I’m sure of it.”
“NO! And why are we going to bed early tonight? Are our friends going to be going to be early on June 10?”
“We discussed this. You need to train your bodies to get back in the swing of things.”
“I’m convinced my body does not need training.”
Friends, it all went downhill at that moment. I thought I was in a house full of toddlers who were protesting bed time. They pulled out all the excuses…from the dog needed help, to they needed water, to could we just spend a little bit more time together with their sweet eyes.
Yes. They still know how to make the sad faces with the sweet eyes.
And you know what, I still know how to say, “Go.To.Bed.”
Our children will always try to work those sweet eyes!
