I have been counting it down since August 1. For 21 days, I checked my calendar once and then checked it twice. I posted cute notices on Instagram and Twitter in hopes that others would share in my excitement. This year, I was determined to be ready.
The school emails started in mid-July, and before we knew it, gone were the lazy days of summer back to school 2016 was upon us. In addition to supplies and clothes I needed to buy, I also needed to remember English AP homework, freshman orientation dates, and soccer training schedules. Despite the extra stress we experienced last month.
Simply put, there are three times of the year that can wreak havoc in the lives of parents. August, December, and May will absolutely send you over the edge if you allow them – especially ifyou have more than one child. When Monday, August 22 arrived this year, I was estatic. Not because I was tired of the kids, I felt that I’d be able to slow down and catch my breath, if only for a moment.
In full parenting honesty, this was my first summer in 15 years that I was not working full-time outside of the home. The mom-turned-cruise-director role was a tricky one to embrace, because somehow I thought with teenagers it would get easier. Apparently for me, “de nile” is more than a river in Egypt.
Monday morning, after everyone was dropped off and settled into their new classes and all obligatory photos were posted on social media, I had one job. Go home and get back in the best quick, fast, and in a hurry. I was tired y’all. Once I became snuggly and cozy in between my bed sheets with a heating pad and a good book, I then had a second job. I needed to visit Groupon Goods and figure out what other things I can use to enjoy this week and celebrate myself. To properly honor my affinity for Parks & Recreation, I named my time spent on Groupon as my “Treat Yo Self” planning time.

After the snapping and posting of the first day, I had one job. Treat yo self planning!
Groupon is a savings website that features deals and coupons for goods, services, travel, and items across the country. It is the leader in on-line savings and is totally free for the consumer. No sign up fees, membership charges, or referral costs. Use your email address (or sign in with your Facebook account information) and you are ready to start saving! Using Groupon Goods to treat myself was was important because 1. I planned to celebrate the entire week and that can be pricey, and 2. I just spent several hundred dollars over the past month with back to school stuff. (Speaking of which, Groupon Goods also helped our family with our tech needs for the new school year as well.)

My first day of school retreat.
Here’s what I found:
- Luxury sheet sets to ensure I get catch up on some much-needed rest
- Discounted movie tickets
- OPI Katy Perry Collection fingernail polish
- A Day at the Spa
- A bottle of Versace Bright Crystal Eau de Toilette for Women
All for less than $100!!!!!!!

The savings were shocking. I could get used to this!
Here’s to a new school year and a new tradition for me! Be sure to follow Groupon on Facebook and Twitter to stay abreast of additional savings and goods!
